Studio Noize: Black Art Podcast

Hosted by Atlanta-based artist and printmaker Jamaal Barber, Studio Noize is a long-running interview show centered on Black artists and the people who support their work. Across 100 episodes, Jamaal has spoken with painters, printmakers, sculptors, curators, art directors, gallerists, and collectors, building a substantial archive of contemporary Black visual culture told in the artists own words. Episodes typically run 60 to 90 minutes, which gives guests the room they need to actually unpack their practice, talk about the technical decisions behind specific bodies of work, and reflect on how they built sustainable careers. Because Jamaal is a working artist himself, his questions cut past the surface biography material that often fills artist interviews and get into studio routines, material choices, gallery relationships, and the economics of making a living from art. Recent guests include Harmonia Rosales, Harris Wiltsher, and Malene Barnett, and the back catalog reads like a who-is-who of contemporary Black art. The show holds a 5-star average from nearly 80 reviewers, and new episodes arrive on a biweekly schedule. For artists looking to learn from peers and for collectors trying to understand the field more deeply, Studio Noize is one of the most valuable shows in the category.
