Standard Deviations with Dr. Daniel Crosby

Daniel Crosby is a psychologist who wandered into asset management, and Standard Deviations is what happens when somebody with that background sits down with researchers, advisors, portfolio managers, and the occasional novelist to talk about why investors do what they do. The show has been running since 2017 and now sits north of 300 episodes, most of them 30 to 50 minutes, dropping weekly. Crosby is one of the few hosts in the advisor space who can keep a conversation about client behavior from curdling into jargon. He asks good questions and then actually lets the guest answer, which sounds basic until you hear how rare it is. Topics tend to orbit behavioral finance, investor psychology, decision-making under uncertainty, and the softer parts of advisory work that end up mattering most: trust, communication, the messy emotional underside of money. Recent episodes have covered everything from cognitive biases in portfolio construction to how advisors should actually talk to clients during a sell-off. If you run client meetings and have ever felt like the spreadsheets were the easy part, this one belongs in your rotation.
