Hormonal

Hormonal
Hormonal comes from Clue, the period-tracking app, and is hosted by science journalist Martha Kamila Wright. The show looks at how hormones shape almost everything about being a woman, from memory and mood to skin, sleep, sex drive, and long-term disease risk. What makes it work is Wright's reporting instinct. She treats each topic like a story, pulls in researchers and clinicians, and isn't satisfied with easy answers. An episode on PMS, for instance, doesn't stop at serotonin, it gets into why the condition was pathologized in the first place and why studies still can't agree on how common it really is. Other episodes tackle endometriosis, birth control side effects, the hormonal side of anxiety, puberty, and why so much medical research has historically excluded women. Episodes usually clock in around thirty to forty minutes. The tone is curious and a little skeptical, which is welcome in a space often crowded by influencers selling supplements. It isn't a weekly show anymore, so the back catalogue is where most of the value lives. A good listen for anyone who wants context on why their body behaves the way it does.
