Have Toga, Will Travel

Have Toga, Will Travel
Two Classics PhDs, Emily Jusino and Cam Hawkins, have a show that feels more like eavesdropping on smart friends than sitting in a lecture hall. They take Greece and Rome, ancient and modern, and flip between the two constantly. One minute you're hearing about what a Roman dinner party actually looked like, the next you're getting tips on which museum in Athens is worth your morning. The travel angle is what makes this one stand out. Lots of ancient history shows stop at the end of antiquity. These two keep going and show you how the ruins fit into real cities you can actually visit. If you're planning a trip to Italy or Greece, this is genuinely useful stuff, which sites reward a slow afternoon, which are overrated, how to read what you're looking at. Emily and Cam are both working classicists, so the scholarship is solid, but they're not precious about it. They'll laugh at bad tour guides, argue about their favorite emperors, and admit when they've changed their minds about something. Episodes move at a good clip. Great for anyone who loves the ancient Mediterranean and also happens to like packing a suitcase.
