Caliphate
The New York Times sent Rukmini Callimachi to investigate ISIS through first-person accounts, and the resulting podcast pushed the boundaries of what audio journalism could achieve. The reporting goes places few journalists managed - inside the caliphate, into the minds of recruits and defectors. Later the series faced serious scrutiny over source verification, which itself became a fascinating story about journalism's limits and responsibilities. Worth listening to with that context in mind. Even with its controversies, it raised important questions about reporting, radicalization, and what we're willing to believe.
