Ancient History 101

Ancient History 101
Alexandra Sills runs this one like a crash course for people who keep meaning to read more about the ancient world and never quite get around to it. The premise is simple: pick a topic, any topic, and explain it from scratch with enough depth that you come away actually knowing something. No assumed background, no inside jokes for classicists. The reason it works is Sills herself. She's got the voice of someone who genuinely finds this stuff fascinating and wants you to see why. When she talks about Minoan frescoes or the Persian wars or how we even know what we know about daily life in Uruk, you can tell she's been sitting with the material for a long time. There's a strong focus on how historians and archaeologists actually build their arguments, which I appreciate, because too many shows just hand you a story and move on. Episodes are well-edited, well-paced, and easy to drop into without feeling lost. This is a good pick if you want something that treats ancient history as an active field with real debates, not a settled pile of dates to memorize. Solid starter show. Also solid for people who already know a lot and want a clean refresher.
